1916 -- Bob Eberly is born in Mechanicsville, New York. Bob spent much of his career with Jimmy Dorsey"s Orchestra, while his brother Ray Eberle sang with Glenn Miller. Bob's hits include 'Green Eyes' with Helen O'Connell. Featured in the early 50's on 'TV's Top Tunes,' Bob died died following a heart attack on November 17, 1981. He was 65 years old. 1933 -- 'The Romance of Helen Trent' is heard on Midwest regional radio before joining CBS three months later. The show continued on the air for 27 years and 7,222 episodes. Helen remained 35 years old throughout the entire series. 1937 -- Two staples of 1960s and '70s television are born today. AND 1956 -- Exactly 10 years after they started their comedy team, Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis call it quits. Their last show is at the Copacabana nightclub in New York City. 1961 -- NBC correspondent Edwin Newman becomes news anchor of 'The Today Show.' 1963 -- On 'American Bandstand,' dark-shaded Roy Orbison performs 'Falling.' 1980 -- Peter Sellers, a founding member of BBC radio's Goon Show, dies following at the age of 54. With the exception of talkshows, Peter's appearances on American television were limited, ending with a 1969 cameo on 'It Takes a Thief.' 2003 -- NBC announces that , we learned for the first time that after the current (& final) season of NBC's "Friends," Matt LeBlanc would star in a spinoff show entitled "Joey." |
